Spenda is now an AfriFlux customer. Here's what that changes.

Spenda has taken an AfriFlux enterprise workspace. Spenda is also the second-largest venue in our coverage, and we publish its numbers every Monday. This is the disclosure, and the standing policy that goes with it.

Title card: Spenda is now an AfriFlux enterprise customer — the second-largest venue in coverage at 21.6% of measured volume, with 27,213 depositing addresses, more than any other venue we track, and no change to how it is measured.

Spenda has taken an AfriFlux enterprise workspace, which we announced on 10 August.

Spenda is also the second-largest venue in our coverage at 21.6% of measured volume, with more depositing addresses than any other venue we track. We publish figures about Spenda in the newsletter every Monday, and on this feed whenever something moves.

Those two facts sit together awkwardly enough that we would rather say so ourselves than have someone notice later.

What does not change

Spenda's numbers are produced the same way they were before 10 August, and the same way every other venue's are: we identify deposit addresses by mapping on-chain infrastructure, then attribute deposit-side volume from public chain data.

We do not use venue-supplied figures for any venue in coverage. That was true when we were measuring Spenda and had never spoken to them, and it is true now. There is no version of the query that knows who is paying us.

The reason this holds is mechanical rather than principled: the attribution runs across all venues in the same job, on the same rules, and there is nowhere in it to put an exception without breaking the comparison that makes the whole series worth anything.

What we will do

We will disclose. Whenever a venue in our coverage becomes a customer, it gets a note like this one, published at the time, not buried in a terms page.

We will publish the unflattering weeks. Spenda grew 5.3% this week and set an address record; in the week of 20 July it fell 7.5% and we reported that too. If a customer has a bad quarter, that is what the number will say.

We will correct in both directions. We removed Noblocks from coverage entirely rather than publish attribution we could not defend, and we restated Quidax's record upward by $283,429 when a discovery pass turned out to be incomplete. Neither was a commercial decision, and neither will be.

If you think a figure we publish about Spenda — or anyone else — is wrong, the method statement on every note tells you what was measured and what was excluded. That is the check, and it works whoever is paying.

Method

Spenda's figures are produced exactly as every other venue's are: deposit addresses identified through on-chain infrastructure mapping, then attributed deposit-side only, from public chain data. We do not use venue-supplied volume figures for any venue in coverage, customer or not, and a commercial relationship does not change the query, the method, or the review. This note exists to disclose the relationship, not to qualify the numbers.
