infrastructure, not a venue
Textile FX cleared $4,496,559 in African notional in the week of 21 to 27 September — up 139%, and more than double its previous best of $1,884,510.
Textile is an on-chain FX rail, not a venue. A trader names a size, market makers quote it, and the swap settles in one transaction. Its African business is almost entirely one corridor: USDT ↔ cNGN.
The same week, in the token
cNGN's transfer volume on BNB Chain rose 163%, from $4,507,856 to $11,849,502.
| cNGN, this week | Volume | Daily addresses |
|---|---|---|
| BNB Chain | $11,849,502 | ~58 |
| Base | $2,691,580 | ~748 |
| Celo | $1,733,613 | ~14 |
BNB Chain carried 4.4 times Base's value on one-thirteenth of the people.
That is what an FX rail looks like in a token's transfer data: a small number of market makers moving large tickets. It is the third straight week that cNGN's largest chain by value has been its smallest by participants, and the first week we can name the specific rail doing it.
Why it is not in the market number
None of this is added to our venue index. A business swapping dollars for naira through Textile is not a person depositing into an exchange, and counting both would count the same money twice under two different meanings.
Method
Textile FX volume is measured from its settlement contracts; African notional is the subset with an African currency on one side. cNGN figures are transfer volume from the native stablecoin series, excluding mints and burns, with daily active addresses averaged across the days in the week. The two series are related here by inspection — Textile settles its naira leg in cNGN on BNB Chain — not by a join, so the overlap is described rather than quantified. Infrastructure volume is never added to the venue index: a single trade can cross a rail and be counted again as venue flow.
